We are happy to announce that we completely generalized our deployment core system which now takes as input your own Dockerfile and spawn it to our cloud.
This change will allow to deploy anything (ruby on rails, Elixir, php, python, ...), and not just Node.js.
As we know, not everyone is necessarily confortable with Docker, we thus provide a templating system which allow to generate automatically a Dockerfile with openode template. Currently templates for Node.js and nginx (for static files projects) are available. More templates will be added over time.
Templates are publicly available at https://github.com/openode-io/build-templates/ and the repository is open to pull requests!
This is a quick update regarding our open source services. We are upgrading the free sandbox available for open source projects.

In order to better adjust the prices with respect to the infrastructure cost, we increased our pricing plans. If you already bought credits, you will see your credits were adjusted proportionally.
We are currently working on introducing new services for serverless capabilities, Function-as-a-Service (FaaS).
Serverless is a real revolution in the web industry - you no more need to have a server constantly listening. Rather you just have functions running on demand.
opeNode Serverless will allow you to define API endpoints with Node functions, and you will only pay when the API endpoint is called for the computing time.
We use hundreds of open source projects to build opeNode. In order to give back to the community, we will now offer free hosting for open source projects without any uptime limitation.
To get it, you must request it via the administration dashboard under Billing > Open Source Sandbox, provide a description of your project and a public repository URL of your project. We then review the project and approve/decline. If your project is approved, you will get the free sandbox plan, which includes 50 MB RAM, 10 GB Bandwidth per month, and 1 GB of storage.

In order to help new opeNode users, we are adding a new feature in the Administration Dashboard which allows a user to pick a pre-built packages which get automatically deployed. You can then
openode pullto get the source code of that deployed website.
The feature is available via Administration > Add New Instance.
We will be doing major server upgrade during 17:00 - 21:00 PM (EST) on December 25 (Yes, we work during Christmas :-) ). Minor service degradation might occur during that interval.
We are working hard in pushing new major features to opeNode while handling significant growth. We just improved this week a new layout of our website with improved UI. If you have any comment or feedback in this regard please let us know.

A scheduler functionnality is now available in order to run recurring tasks.

Node.js v8.3.0 has just been released! One key new feature is the Turbofan introduced in V8 6.0. The new execution pipeline has been optimized for modern JavaScript. The Node.js 8.3.0 release note is available at https://nodejs.org/en/blog/release/v8.3.0/
Node.js v8.3.0 is now our new default version, if you don't specify any required Node.js version in your package.json.

We just released a first version of our opeNode API at: https://api.openode.io/! The API allows you to manage and get information on your instances.
For instance, the webhook action can be used to automatically git push-n-deploy your instance by providing the API url to your github/bitbucket webhooks.
You can now collaborate with your collegues by inviting them on opeNode.
We added a new feature to invite your collaborators. In the admin panel, under the website actions, you can click on collaborators and manage your collaborators.
When you invite a collaborator, he will be invited to join your project by email and he will then have access to the project so that the project can be shared among multiple members.
We developed a new automatic detection of your package.json and server files, so that it is more efficient to import your project(s) :-].
As soon as you import your project, we scan (in background) your project and look for a package.json file and set it as your package.json file. Then, we look for the "start" parameter in your package.json file.
Example:

From this package.json file, we will automatically find and set your server file to my-pretty-server.js.
